Herbert Muir

Born In: Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: September 7th, 2016

Charles Herbert “Herb” Muir, of Westville, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on September 7, 2016 in Halifax, with family by his side.
Herb was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen Marie (Hughes) and brother, Albert (Betty).
He is survived by sister, Trudy; sons, Paul (Philomena) and Robert (Michele); grandchildren, Garrett, Teagan, Alexandra, Stella and Grace; and great grandchildren, Ethan and Hazel.
Herb was a man of many passions, his career and family always at the forefront. His lengthy employment in the Trenton steel industry was a constant source of challenge and enjoyment, to the point where, even well into retirement, Herb would often comment, jokingly perhaps, about hoping for a call back to work.
In many ways, a self-taught jack-of-many-trades, Herb was an accomplished skater, square dancer and wood worker, his talent with the latter representing itself in many items enjoyed to this day by members of his family. Herb was also a loyal and proud 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
Herb’s family would like to thank the many caregivers who contributed to Herb’s wellbeing over the years and, most specifically, the doctors, nurses, care workers and staff at The Parkland and The Parkstone.
Visitors will be received on Monday, September 19th from 2-4 pm at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Graveside committal service to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery with Rev. Donna Tourneur and Fr. Tom MacNeil officiating. Donations may be made in Herb’s name to The Masonic Foundation of Nova Scotia.
Western Masonic Lodge will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 pm Monday, September 19, to conduct their service.
