Bernard Campbell

Passed on: September 12th, 2016

We wish to announce the passing of Bernard A. Campbell age 85, at the Glace Bay General Hospital on September 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family after enduring health challenges in recent years.
Bernie lived his entire life in Glace Bay and was known as a true gentleman and as having a pleasant demeanor to those who knew him. He devoted his entire life to his predeceased spouse Marion, to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who he loved dearly. As a family man he provided plenty of quality memories by spending time crafting building projects for his children or sitting back enjoying his summers in Mira and at their family cottage on the Bras D'dor Lakes. Bernie started his machinist career at the Glace Bay Central Shops where he cherished many memories and friendships. In the early 60's he acquired a teaching license and worked at the Cape Breton Regional Vocational School in Sydney, where he enjoyed a long and rewarding teaching career as a machinist instructor. He received great satisfaction in seeing his former students meet with success in their trade. Bernie is survived by his sons, Charlie (Celeste), David (Mildred), Barrie (Ethel) and daughter, Bernita (Brian) Merritt. He is also survived by grandchildren, Sonya, Dale, Chris, Gary, Angela, Jeff, Leah, Anna, Mitchell and Brianna; great grandchildren, Ella, Nora, William, Daniel and Rebecca. He is also survived by his sister, Audrey MacDonald (Syl) of Ontario who is the last surviving family member. Also surviving are in-laws, Nina (Al) Redding, Jean Anne Hay and Arthur (Cheryl) Hay. He was predeceased by his spouse, Marion (Hay); parents, Charles & Anne; brothers, Frank, Louie and sisters, Claira, May, Jeanie, Martha, Anna, Pauline and Theresa. Special thanks to Dr B Dias and staff of 4 North and 3rd Floor at Glace Bay Hospital. Funeral arrangements are under the care and guidance of Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main Street, Glace Bay with visitation scheduled for Wednesday, September 14, 6-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, at St Anne’s Parish with the Rev Leo Boone officiating.
