It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother June MacKeigan of Glace Bay, on Sunday September 11, 2016 at Alderwood Rest Home Baddeck with loving family at her side. Born June 1, 1926 in Sydney she was the daughter of the late George and Gertie MacNeil. June was devoted to her family, community, and church. Over the years June had a love for skating, walking, bowling, yoga and she was an avid knitter. She was known for her African Violets. June was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church including being on the board of managers, choir, church secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Golden Circle, AMS, and had a hand in all fundraising with the church. Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Jubilee Lodge, and a founding member of the Silver Bells. She loved being a volunteer in the community including fund raising team leader with Canadian Cancer Society, the United Way, Canada Games, and the Canadian Little League Championships. June is survived by daughter Nancy; sons, Dwight(Jennifer), Dale (Jane), and Darrin; grandchildren, Alexander, Mariah, Conor, Devlin and Fiona; daughter-in-law Aileen McNabb, brother, Henry (Greta) MacNeil; special niece, Isabel Strong; sister-in-law, Helen MacNeil, and many nieces and nephews with whom she shared a special friendship. Besides her parents she was predeceased by husband, Doug “Danger” (2002); son, Doug (2011); sister, Ruth (Glen )Tutty; brothers, Gerry MacNeil, Kevin (Sandra) MacNeil; sisters-in-law, Pearl MacKeigan-Cosnick, Mamie Harn and niece, Isabel King. Visitation for June will be held on Friday September 16, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 (Rebekah Jubilee Lodge service at 1:45) in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Brookside St, Glace Bay. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday September 17, 2016 at 11 am in St. Paul’s Church Glace Bay with Rev. Allen MacLellan officiating. Reception, in church, to follow. Donations in June’s memory can be made to St. Paul’s Church, Alderwood Rest Home, Alzheimer’s Society, Canadian Cancer Society, or charity of one’s choice. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Alderwood Rest Home, for the exceptional care of our mother.
