It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family announce the passing of Vernon Clark Westhaver, on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at the age of 91, in the Veteran’s Wing at Harbourview Hospital in Sydney Mines. Born on February 18, 1925, in Martins Brook, Lunenburg County, he was the son of the late Sadie (Rafuse) and Joseph Westhaver. Vernon was a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Canadian Air Force, honorably discharged in 1945, following which he was employed with CNR as a stevedore until his retirement in 1982. For many years he was a lobster fisherman and an avid outdoorsman. He is survived by his daughter, Marguerite (Bill) Weatherbee; his son, Joseph (Deborah); grandchildren, Billy, Lara and Mya; his sister-in-law, Irene Westhaver and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife, Agnes; his sisters, Rita and Mary; brothers, Harold and Charles.
The family would like to thank Harbourview Hospital Staff and Dr. John Kirkpatrick for their great care. In honoring Vernon’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. A private burial will be held at a later date under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
