Audrey Lindsay

Passed on: September 6th, 2016

Audrey Frances Lindsay (Darling), born September 15, 1919 passed away September 6, 2016 and leaves her family and friends with precious memories and lessons in life: work hard, have fun and be true to your beliefs. Darlings Resort at Lac Pelletier, was Audrey's childhood home, family vacation resort while raising her family and home for many years of retirement. She was born at Swift Current Hospital, graduated from Spring School and in 1936 from Grade 11 at Lutheran Bible College in Regina, and worked with parents to save the farm and lake resort during the final years of the 'dirty thirties.' Audrey married Lorne Lindsay, July 25,1940 and they eked out a living first on the Lindsay homestead, where the rock walls continue to frame the foundation of the tiny cave home, and then to their own farm in the valley with a damn bordered by the CPR railway. Audrey had all the skills of farming, baking in a cast iron stove, gardening, canning, butter churning, and laundering clothes with no electricity or plumbing. She worked magic with her treadle Singer Sewing machine including window drapes, her own and her children's clothes. Every dress was given a distinct feature. All the while she cut and perm'ed family and neighbours' hair, played softball on the same team as her older daughters and continued to help and support her parents. Following Lorne's tragic injury, they moved to Swift Current, Calgary and then to Radium where Audrey completed Lifeguard and Swim Instructor training. Skills she carried into retirement and her return to Lac Pellitier. Throughout her life, Audrey studied a variety of religious beliefs. With each she found disagreement until she studied and became a Jehovah's Witness. Audrey was the last survivor of her generation among her brothers and sisters and those of her husband.
