Joy Elaine Wasson

WASSON, Joy Elaine – 62, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday evening, September 20, 2016, at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of Betty (Moore) Carter, Brookfield, and the late Raymond “Ray” Carter. Joy worked at Colchester Regional Hospital for many years in the lab and then as a booking clerk and retired in June 2013. She loved her dogs (Patch, Rozie, Dazie), horses, sports and was very meticulous about her flower gardens and back yard appearance. Joy was the epitome of a “hockey Mom” who tirelessly devoted herself going to and from hockey rinks and cherished being Scott and Brian’s number one fan. Along with her mother, Joy is survived by her husband, Walter; children, Scott (Rebecca) Totten, Milton, Ontario; Brian (Jessica) Totten, Harmony, Colchester County; step children, Jordon Reid, Windsor; Marlee Leslie, Economy; grandchildren, Tyler, Danni, Ava, one on the way; step granddaughter, Aliyah; siblings, Irene Morrisey, Riverview, New Brunswick; Leonard Carter, Brookfield; Janet (Wayne) Reade, Greenfield; Dawn (Donald) Henderson, Brookfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Along with her father, she was predeceased by her niece, Suzanne Reade. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Joy’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2016. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2016, in Knox United Church, 51 Highway 289, Brookfield, Reverend Keith Gale officiating. Private interment in Brookfield Eastside Cemetery. All are welcome to join with Joy’s family for a reception in the church hall immediately following the service and the family will join with you following the interment. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Joy’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
