Lorraine Lacelle

Passed on: September 18th, 2016

Lorraine Rita Lacelle of Swift Current, SK passed away on September 18th after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Her children were by her side. Mom was born on May 1, 1946 in Ponteix to Andre and Germaine Goddu. She was raised on the family farm at Frenchville and attended school at the convent in Ponteix, Frenchville and Admiral. On October 17, 1963 she married Joseph Lacelle and together they raised four children at the ranch at Lac Pelletier: Michelle (Bob) Speir and her daughter April (Dennis) Thomas and their children Nathan and Luke; Monique (Jody) Wiens and their children Kylee (Bryan) Lamotte, Cole and Tyson; Carmen (Terry) Fisher and their children Dalton and Ryan; Trampus (Lee-Ann) Lacelle and their children Hillary and Tyler. She is also survived by her siblings Dianne Kieseg, Gloria Blair, Loren Goddu, Claudette Goddu and Clem Goddu and their families.

Mom was an outdoorsy person and loved exploring nature, forever searching for crocuses and interesting rocks, especially when she could do it with her grandchildren. She always had an ear open for the song of a meadowlark. When there were jobs to be done she was the first call we made. No matter what the task was she would pitch in and usually lead the charge. Quilting was a new passion which was a continuation of a lifetime of sewing. Birds and animals, especially goats, were her favourites. This love was shared and grown with her children and grandchildren. Her latest pet Pip was a source of joy for her even if obedience school didn’t go so well. Music was another love, especially ABBA and Frank Mills’ Music Box Dancer. She loved to dance and didn’t sit down all night at her granddaughter Kylee’s wedding in March. Her favourite hymn was Amazing Grace and it never failed to bring a tear to her eye. Reading was another hobby she shared with her family, often sharing bags of books with everyone. Carmen said she was a good critic: if Mom liked the book, we all would. Everyone in the family was given a special name, which made sense for a woman that had the nickname Cookie, even putting it on her cheques at one point. Her grandchildren were her ultimate joy. She treated them all as the individuals they were and they all had a special connection with GRAMS. She will be greatly missed.

In memory of Lorraine and in lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA Bookstore - Memorial Donation 37 1st Ave NE Swift Current, SK S9H 2A9 would be appreciated by the family. At Mom’s request there was a private family funeral. Warren's Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. For further information call 1-306-773-8831:1-800-267-6606 or visit our website at www.warrensfuneralhome.com and express your sympathy to family members in our book of condolences.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Anne’s Church, Lac Pelletier at 2:00PM on October 22, 2016. Please bring a photo you would like to share with the family.
