Fiander; Gladys “Ruth”, age 105, of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22nd, 2016, in Queens Manor, Liverpool. Born in Summerville Center, she was a daughter of the late Bertram and Carrie (MacGowan) Huskins. In the 1950’s, she started up her own business selling Tupperware, helping host parties and also selling from her own home. Ruth graduated from Vocational School in Halifax with her Secretarial Diploma. She then worked as a sales clerk for Zellers for a few years. She later went to work at Dalhousie University working in the library and then the university archives before retiring in 1967. She was a member of Summerville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and a Charter Member and Past Matron of Queens Chapter #34 of the Order of Eastern Star. Ruth was very crafty and enjoyed embroidery and rug hooking. She also loved reading a good book. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Fiander (Les MacKinnon), of Dartmouth; her sons, Jim (Jean), of Liverpool, Paul (Sandra), of Halifax; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur “Joseph”, sisters, Barbara, Constance; brothers, Harris, Gerald, Curtis and Winston. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Monday, September 26th, 2016, and a Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held on Tuesday, September 27th, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception, all from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Reverend Judy Cross and Reverend Russell Prime will be officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Port Mouton. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or to Summerville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
