Vince MacPherson, age 79, died on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016 at the An Cala palliative care unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Vince was the husband of 54 years to Shirley and son of the late Joe and Myrtle MacPherson. Vince grew up in River Ryan and like so many others moved to Ontario to seek employment. After retirement, he made his way back to Cape Breton. Vince most recent residence was in Sydney, where he had an ocean view. A private fellow, Vince was known for his musical gifts, particularly the ability to play guitar. He was an exceptional handyman and any project he set out on was done well. Vince was devoted to his canine buddies, Gizmo and the last dog, Bailey.
Vince is survived by his wife, Shirley; sisters, Thresa, Carmel, Chris and Lorraine; as well as Shirley’s sisters, Jean and Wilda. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews locally and in N.B. and Ont.; his cancer journey dear friend, Pidge, who accompanied him to local medical appointments; niece, Brenda, who also accompanied him when she was in Cape Breton and his nephew, Jaimsie and sister, Lorraine, who helped with the medical trips to Halifax, as only Shirley, his wife, could be trusted with the care of Bailey, his dog who was not well either.
Besides his parents, Vince was predeceased by his best friend and brother, Joe D. and sister, Rita. As per Vince’s request there will be no visitation for cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside service to celebrate the life of Vincent ‘Vince’ MacPherson will be held on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan, with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation in memory of Vince may be made to the SPCA or Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
