It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Susie Melbourne, announce her passing on Friday, September 30, 2016. In our sorrow, we take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her beloved husband, Cecil. Born November 12, 1928 in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland, Susie lived in Diamond Cove and moved with her husband to North Sydney in 1951. Susie was the daughter of the late John and Elsie (Knott) Best. Susie’s most important job was a stay-at-home mom where she would often make homemade bread and knit sweaters and socks for her children and grandchildren. She worked for a number of years at CN Marine and Zellers. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney and a member of the ACW. Left to remember Susie are her children, Elsie Farrell (Danny), Sheila Mulley (Wayne), Wayne (Sheila), John (Genevieve), Michelle Melbourne (Artie); grandchildren, Denise Farrell (Gerry), Nancy Liberatore (Enio), Kelli Mulley, Glen Farrell, Sonya Matheson (Brad), Krista Farrell (Ed), Jodie Joudrey (Marc), Jonathan Melbourne, Zachary, Rylee and Taylor Emond, Josh Watson and six great-grandchildren, (Liana and Brittaney Farrell, Nicholas and Sophie Liberatore, Alexander Bachynsky, and Daniel Matheson) as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Loretta Skeard, Daphne Patey and Florence Best. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Melbourne; her sister, Amelia (Millie Brown) and brothers, Gerald, Thomas, Walter, Claude and John Best. Our family would like to thank the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home and the Northside General Hospital for their dedication to caring for our beloved mother. Visitation for Susie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral will take place Monday at 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Julio C. Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
