Marie Jacoba Porskamp – 94, of Wolfville, formerly of Sheffield Mills, Kings County, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Groenlo, Holland, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Bernadine (Baack) teBraake. Together with her late husband, she immigrated to Canada in 1958 and worked together on the family farm. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend, who especially enjoyed family gatherings. She enjoyed sewing and made many articles of clothing for her girls when they were growing up. She was a member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church and the Canning Catholic Council. Marie was an avid bowler and enjoyed her daily walks, continuing on her treadmill into her early 90's. She also enjoyed regular card games with her siblings and friends. She was a volunteer with Evergreen Home for Special Care. She enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets for family and charity, making numerous donations to the Valley Care Pregnancy Centre and Open Arms. She is survived by her two daughters, Annette (Eric) Dauphinee, Oakville, Ontario; AnnMarie (Herman) Mentink, Grand Pré; her two sons, Martin (Susan) Porskamp, Sheffield Mills; Peter (Diane) Porskamp, Sheffield Mills; her 11 grandchildren, Adam (Katrina) Dauphinee, Nick Dauphinee (Carole Ng), Simon Dauphinee (Karen Harvie), Peter (Katrina) Mentink, Elizabeth (Derek) Sequeira, Erin Mentink (Neil Tate), Nathan (Justine) Mentink, Adrienne (Frank) Evans, Emily Porskamp, Allison Porskamp (Simon Brayford), Peter Porskamp; her nine great grandchildren, Hugo, Porter, Annelies, Alexander, Lucia, Madelyn, Jonah, Dominic and Gilbert; her siblings, John teBraake and Truus Ueffing, both of Wolfville; Riek Schuurmans, Anneke Remy, Mientje teBraake, Diny Baks, Agnes Rotink, Coos Bleumink, Harry teBraake and Margriet Elshof, all of The Netherlands and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Hendrikus “Henk”; brothers, Theo and Bennie. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., with prayers to be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2016 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father Gerald Saulnier officiating. A reception will follow in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Cemetery, Ridge Road, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or the Valley Hospice Foundation.
