We the family of Mary Catherine LeVatte, are deeply saddened by her sudden and unexpected death, which occurred at her residence in Halifax on October 1, 2016. Mary Catherine was born January 7, 1955 in Sydney, NS. She was the beloved daughter of the late Daniel Cameron and Margaret (Ferguson) LeVatte. Mary Catherine graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University in the first graduating class in Public Relations.
During her career, Mary Catherine held a number of management positions in the non-profit sector. Some of the highlights of her career were executive positions at Adsum House, the North End Community Health Center and the Nova Scotia Sea School. Her most recent position was as business manager at SP Dumaresque Architects of Halifax. In addition to her full time work schedule, she always found time to volunteer for various charities. She is survived by her sister, Peggy LeVatte (Kevin McCormack) and their children, Matthew (Olesia and baby Nadya), Brendan, Kevin Luke and Justin; sister, Star (Jim O’Neill) and their children, Daniel and Seamus; sister, Suzannah (Bruce MacDonald) and their children, Charles, Emily, Lucy and Bruce Jr and many beloved cousins and friends.
Special mention of her deep friendship with her aunt, Betty Dedrick (Daniel LeVatte’s sister), caring neighbour, Linda Wilson and mentors, Crane Stookey, Sid Dumaresque and the late Phil Dumaresque. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the memorial service that will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8 at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Rev. Doug Murphy will officiate. A private interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Mira. Donations can be made in memory of Mary Catherine to “Nova Scotia Sea School” or a Charity of Choice.
