Roderick Michael MacNeil, 80, of Sydney, died suddenly on Monday, October 3rd, 2016, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, where he resided for the past five months. He was born in Sydney on April 19th, 1936, to Neil and Elizabeth MacNeil. Rod is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eileen (Penny); son, Robin, of Lower Sackville; brother, Paul, of Peterborough, Ont.; grandchildren, Kyla, Connor, Aidan, Erin and Keigan, also of Lower Sackville, as well as several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by brothers, Edward and Herbert (late Ceci). Rod spent his entire career of 40 plus years in the investment business. He was involved in many church activities, being an elder of Bethel Presbyterian Church since 1978. He and Eileen especially enjoyed square and round dancing during their retirement years. He was a long time member of the Gideons organization and a past president of Kiwanis Golden K service club. As a younger man, he was well known in curling circles, together with brothers, Herb and Edward.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, October 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 6 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations in Rod's memory may be made to a Bethel Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of choice.
