Gladys Fraser

Gladys Viola (Higgins) Fraser died peacefully at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, NS October 2, 2016.
Born July 27, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Percy and Eva Higgins, Stellarton, NS and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
After receiving her early education in Stellarton schools, she went on to serve with the RCAF during WWII, and was stationed at Ottawa, Ontario. Following her return to Nova Scotia she married Marshall Fraser, raised four children while enjoying knitting, baking, crossword puzzles and reading. She had a very keen mind, and could carry on a conversation on just about any subject.
Gladys was a long-standing member of the United Church of Canada and taught Sunday School for many years and also served as Treasurer of the former St. James United Church, Hantsport, NS.
She is survived by daughters Marsha Brunette, Vaudreuil-Dorion, PQ, Cheryl Whytewood, Fredericton; NB, Donna Fraser, Halifax; one son, Kevin Fraser (Anne Armstrong), Westville, NS. Also, surviving are grandchildren, Richard Motlik, Montreal, Quebec; Scott (Emily) Motlik, Regina, Saskatchewan; Sharon (Jim Bartholemew) Bali, Indonesia, Bruce (Stacy) Whytewood, Riverview, NB; Amy (Cyril) Hughes, Fredericton, NB; Ann (Paul) Sitzberger, Wendover, UK and Alexandria Fraser, Westville, NS. Gladys is also survived by great grandchildren, Riley and Mackenzie Motlik, Jami and Daniel Whytewood, Avery Hughes and George Sitzberger, many nieces and nephews as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband Marshall (1999); brothers Dexter and William (Carrie) Higgins; sister Gwen (Garnet) Moore; sons-in-law Whit Whytewood and Robert Brunette.
A celebration of Gladys’ life will take place Thursday, October 6, 2016, 11:00 am at the Avon United Church, Hantsport, NS. Visitation will be held in the church from10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00, am. A reception will follow in the church hall. Internment will take place Friday, October 7, 2016, 11:00 am, Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour, Pictou County. Reception to follow in the church hall.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels.
