Bernadette Emma Pittman (nee Bennett) of Renews, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 3, 2016. Bernadette is now reunited with Donald, her husband and best friend of 53 years, who passed in May 2016. Her welcoming smile, love of life, and quiet humour will remain in the hearts of all of her family and friends, and we take comfort in knowing Don and Bernadette are together again. Leaving to mourn her loving family: Sr. Laurane Pittman P.B.V.M., Frank and Sheila Pittman, Sadie and Mont Keough, and Betty Curtis; cherished nieces and nephews: Enola (Jack) Lawlor, Neil Pittman (Rose McGrath), Kathy Pittman-Feltham (Dana Feltham), Diane Keough (Jeff Mercer), Bryan Curtis, and Monty (Cheryl) Keough; great nieces and nephews: Joel Lawlor (Melissa Gavin), Katie Lawlor, Sarah Lawlor, Nicole and Ryan Pittman, and Neiva, Rory and Meara Keough; and her great-great niece and nephew Scarlett and Nash Lawlor; cousins Derm and Judith Bennett, Brendan and Patsy Bennett; dear friends and neighbours Ronnie and Denise Carey and family; her cherished Kane family; and the extended Bennett and Pittman families. Bernadette is predeceased by her parents William and Bride (Fitzgerald) Bennett, her parents-in-law Cornelius and Hannah (Lawlor) Pittman, brother-in-law Con Curtis, and cousins Shelia and Dick Wade. Bernadette was a kind and gentle soul who was a friend to young and old alike. Whoever stepped across her doorstep was greeted with a "How ya gettin' on? Have a cup of tea and something to eat? Help yourself." She shared a wonderful life with her husband Don enjoying card games, trips to St. Anne's Shrine, trouting, and time with family and friends. Waking at Fahey's Funeral Home in Fermeuse on Wednesday, October 5, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, October 6, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Apostles Church, Renews, with interment to follow at Holy Apostles Cemetery, Renews. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernadette's memory may be made to the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, Renews (P.O. Box 26, Renews NL, A0A 3N0) or to a charity of one's choice.
