Lola Vera (Cook) Gillie

GILLIE, Lola Vera (Cook) – 96, Truro passed away September 24, 2016 at Wynn Park Villa. Born in West Roachvale, Guysborough County, she was a daughter of the late George Purvis and Martha Ann (Slate) Cook. She is survived by her daughter, Hazel (Fred) DeHay, North Port, FL; grandchildren, Michael (Cherie) DeHay, Donald DeHay, North Port, FL, Matthew (Brandi) Gillie, Hampden, ME and Sarah Gillie (Roger), Milford, ME; great-grandchildren, Michael DeHay, North Port, FL, Tyler Gillie and Katie Moody, Hampden, ME. She is also survived by many loving and devoted nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Layton, and son, Lloyd. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Lola was predeceased by sisters, Hazel, Flora, Lillian, and Helen and brother, Harold. During her life, she lived and worked in Roachvale and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia and Weymouth and East Bridgewater, MA and retired to Upper Stewiacke and Truro, Nova Scotia and Venice, FL. She was an avid crafter and cook and always anxious to donate and gift her specialties. She attended the McCulloch United Church of Harmony-Camden. A special thank you to her nieces and nephews and friends who faithfully visited and comforted her and to the staff at Wynn Park Villa for their care. There will be no visitation by request. A graveside memorial service will be held on October 21, 2016 at 1:00 PM in the Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough with Reverend Heather Manuel officiating. Following the service, there will be a reception for family and friends at the Wesley United Church Hall, Guysborough. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of choice.
