Mary MacQuarrie

Passed in: Sydney, Nova Scotia
Passed on: October 10th, 2016

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Mary MacQuarrie on October 10, 2016 at the CB Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Montreal she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Ina Morrison. In 1971 she moved with her family to Cape Breton where she remained happily for the rest of her life. She worked for the CB Regional School Board retiring in 2001 from Sydney Academy, where she had worked for many years as a secretary in the main office. She is survived by her children, Virginia (Derek Stapleton), Susan, Sandra (Glenn) Keefe and Stephen. Devoted grandmother to Ami, Shelby, Matthew, Adam, Alex and Laken. Mary is also survived by her dear sister, Barbara (Bernie) Rheault, Chateauguay Quebec; her niece, Lynn, Hamilton, Ont. and many brother, sisters, nieces and nephews from her extended MacQuarrie family. She will also be missed by her fur buddy Max. Mary was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Greg (2011); her brother, Gordon in infancy and her nephew, Michael Rheault.
Mom was immensely proud of her grandchildren, who considered her their second mother, and will be remembered for her quick wit and her ‘Mary Moments’. She was a devoted fan of Coronation Street, all Montreal sports teams and of course bingo and tarabish, which she enjoyed playing regularly on Saturday nights in her home. She was a much sought-after tarabish partner at the Steelworkers Hall and enjoyed playing cards with a few of her close friends on Wednesday afternoons. Mom was also a long time member and volunteer at the Marion Bridge Pensioners Club.
Visitation for Mary will take place at T.W. Curry's Parkview Chapel, George St., Sydney on Friday, October 14 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 15 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Reception to follow in the parish hall. Burial will take place in Resurrection Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. Family flowers only please, but donations to Every Woman's Centre, 21 Trinity Ave., Sydney, NS would be greatly appreciated.
