It is with deep sorrow that the family announce the passing of Mary McPhee, age 90 on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay. Born in Cheticamp, she was the daughter of the late Emile and Evangeline (Doucette) Leforte. Mary lived in New Waterford for several years. She lived a long and at times a troubled life but was blessed with a kind and forgiving heart. Mary enjoyed time with her family and the company of the residents and staff at the manor. She knitted many a pair of warm socks for family members. Mary loved to go bowling and she always had to have her treats with her, pop, pudding and apple sauce. She is survived by her son, Melvin (Sharon); three daughters, Valerie (Alan), June (Nick), Brenda; one sister, Ann Shepard; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Earl McPhee; six brothers, Freddy, Tommy, Eddie, Angus, Sylvester, Joe and two sisters, Mary Ellen and Theresa. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning, October 18 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., followed by a reception, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Fr. Norman McPhee presiding. If desired, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to, “Friends of Seaview Manor.”There are not enough words to express the gratitude of the family for the wonderful care Mary received from the staff at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
