June Devison

Passed on: October 10th, 2016

It is with sadness, that we the family, announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, June Devison, age 86. Ma passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side, on Monday, October 10, 2016, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, where she resided for the past 16 months. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Mary (MacIsaac) Wheeliker; she was a longtime resident of the Table Head area of Glace Bay and during these years she was a devoted member of Epworth United Church. June had a big heart and was a very independent person; she was also a great judge of character and had a great sense of both wonder and humor. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was rarely seen without her knitting needles, making endless amounts of hats, scarves, mittens and socks for her family, friends and neighbors. Ma will be sadly missed by her two sons, Derek (Darlene) and Keith Dennis; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; sisters, Sheila Gilbert, Ronalda Cann; nieces, nephews and friends. June will also be sadly missed by her dedicated longtime friend, Ambrose Deveaux. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving husband, Roderick Francis Devison; brother, Sheldon and twin sister, Shirley MacDonald. A private funeral service, officiated by Rev. Carol Gillard was celebrated Saturday, October 15, 2016 in the V.J.McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay. As an expression of sympathy for June, memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences to the family are available through www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
