Mary “Betty” Elizabeth Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Mary “Betty” Smith, announce her passing on October 14, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late James and Barbara (LeVatte) MacSween. For the duration of her career Betty was a teacher at Malcolm Munroe Jr High. She was an avid Tarbish player. Betty also loved to play darts, both at the Branch 12, Legion and the dart leagues in both Halifax and Sydney. Betty was also a member of the Pensioners and Club 55, where she was a treasurer. She also spent her time swimming at the Kiwanis pool in Sydney. Betty is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Michael) Campbell; grandchildren, Christopher and Shannon (Jason) Ranni; sisters, Carol Korinetz, Ann (Bert) Savage and Brother, Bill. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and “Grand puppy” Peyton.
Besides her parents, Betty is predeceased by her husband, William (Bill); brother, Ronnie and brother-in-law, Steve Korinetz. A special thank you to the wonderful staff of the ICU department of the CBRH. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Betty will be held on Wednesday October 19, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St. and also the following day, Thursday, from 12-2 p.m. with celebration of life to follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev.
