Shirley (Kelly) Llewelyn Smith

It with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Shirley (Kelly) Llewelyn Smith age 87 of Amherst on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan.
Born in Springhill, NS, he was a son of the late Robie and Lila (Smith) Smith.
Shirley was a member of Trinity- St. Stephen’s United Church, Amherst. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camp life with the boys.
Shirley worked for many years with the Canada Electric, Nova Scotia Power Commission as well as Nova Scotia Power in Amherst, Bear River and Truro from where he retired before returning to Amherst.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered by his wife the former, Bernice Betts; one daughter, Holly (Robert) Faulkner, Westchester; five sons, Michael (Annie), Amherst, Alan (Valerie), Beaver Bank Road, NS, Ken (Paulette), Margaree River, NS, Terry (Kim), Moorewood, ON and Peter (Tammy), Truro; grandchildren, Aaron, Crystal, Evan, Alexander, Corey, Cynde, Rory, Justyce, Kelly, Josh and Alycia; great grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel, Katie, Joey, Kalli, Damien, Rennick, Theodore, Carter, Grayson, Ariel and Elias; Shirley is also survived by his sister, Georgina (Ginger) Maston, Halifax, NS; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Shirley was predeceased by his sisters, Alice Harkness and Audrey O’Leary; brothers, Bertram, Estey, Harry, Worden, Hedley and Benjamin.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until funeral service at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Nigel Weaver officiating all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906.
Interment will follow in the Amherst Cemetery with a reception to follow at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society.
