Edward Cartwright

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Edward Cartwright on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional hospital, Sydney. Born August 16, 1933, he was the son of the late Rose and George Cartwright, husband of the late Marjorie Elizabeth (Rose). Edward is survived by his four daughters, Carolyn (Stephen), Lois (Paul), Jane (Craig) and Connie (James). He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Lindsay, Vanessa, Jordan, Ethan and Sarah and his great grandson Logan. He was the brother, of Ethel, Mildred and Audrey.
He is predeceased by sisters, Muriel, Nancy, Ruth, and brothers Kenneth, Gerald and George. At age 21, Dad joined the army and served overseas for two years after WW2. He returned to Georges River, Cape Breton where he married and raised his children. He was a certified boat builder, welder and mechanic but ultimately made a living from the land and sea. He was a fisherman and a farmer and never grew tired of the view from his property overlooking the Bras D’or Lake. He dedicated his life to his family and shared his wisdom generously. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
