Ivan Leslie Reid of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully Sept. 24, 2016 in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with family by his side. Ivan was born March 4, 1937 at home E 1/2 Sec 3, Tp 5, Rge 13, W 3RD in Hillandale Saskatchewan. Ivan was the youngest son of Ray & Violet Reid. He attended school in Hillandale, Climax and Val Marie left school early to stay at home and work with his father on the farm. Always a willing and hard worker, he had numerous jobs to support himself. He bought land in the Beaver Valley area. Raised cattle, had a trucking Company, took Flying lessons and worked hard to make ends meet. When this all failed including his first marriage he became a truck driver moved to Swift Current drove Semi-trucks all across North America. To slow down, Ivan drove Courier for eight years, then delivered Propane all over South West Sask. Not too many back roads he didn't know. He bought a gravel truck and moved dirt for Wiebe Construction before retiring to Medicine Hat. Ivan was a supporter of the Bronco Hockey team and hosted a player for two years. Ivan was very greatful to Bill W. and Dr. Bob for the AA Program which saved his life 32 years ago on Dec. 1, 1984. His new found family and friends were very dear to him. In 1993 Ivan married Jean Haakenson. In 2000 they sold their home in Swift Current and built a cottage at Lac Pelletier which they sold in 2006 and moved to Medicine Hat. He wasn't one to sit around and do nothing, got a job as a car wash attendant and met a lot of very interesting people. Ivan was very much a people person and took an interest in everyone he met. Ivan & Jean enjoyed a few trips Mexico, Hawaii & the Dominican Republic. Ivan enjoyed fishing, camping and most of all having taught his grandchildren how to play golf. His favorite pass time was welding and was very proud of his right hand man a tractor front-end loader he built. Wasn't anything those two couldn't do. He was predeceased by his parents Ray & Violet Reid, his Grandson, three Brothers and one sister. His humor and smile will be missed by everyone that had the pleasure of meeting him. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-three years Jean Haakenson her family Neil & Bobbi & Anton, Randy & Jackie their family Jamie & Jared & Sadie, Shawn, R.J., Austin, Danielle & B.J. Blakely & Beck Sharon & Tom and their family Hope, Thomas, Paul & Faith. His Daughter Donna Alexis & Taya His Son Danny his family Sara & Kevin, Bella & Chloe, Shane, Mason & Colby, Peyton. His Good friend and Sister-In-Law Rena Reid, long time supporter Brenda H., friends Luarie and Vicki. Many Nieces & Nephews & Cousins. A private Family Memorial Service was held in Memory Gardens on Oct. 15, 2016. In his Memory donations may be made to a Charity of your choice.
