It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Angus J. Campbell of East Bay, NS on Thursday, October 27, 2016.
Born in 1924 in Glen Morrison, Cape Breton. He was the son of the late John S. and Sarah (MacEachern) Campbell. Angus was employed with the former Co-op Building Supplies in Sydney for 36 years until his retirement in 1989. In his earlier years, Angus worked for the Sydney Steel Plant; Mason’s and was the Westinghouse TV Repair man for many years. Angus was a member of the 1060 Knights of Columbus Council prior to 27 years ago. He then collected a group of men that wanted to start their own council in the Sydney River area. He was the 2nd Grand Knight to hold office in the Moses M. Coady Council KOC 9476 in Sydney River. He was Past Master of the 4th degree for a 2 year term. He also filled all offices within the Council Executive, and was the Advocate at the time of his passing. Angus was also an active member of the Kiwanis Golden ‘K’ and UCT. He was a volunteer for many events, including the World Junior Hockey Championships, the Cape Breton Celtic Classic Golf Tournament, the ECMA’s, Meals on Wheels, Celtic Colours and the Jeux Canada Games. He was also a greeter at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and while in his 80's, he volunteered at the MacGillivray Guest Home “driving the old folks around!”
Angus was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party all his life and a strong believer in community and education. He was the founding member and School Trustee for the MacCormack School in East Bay, as well as a long-standing and active member of St. Mary’s Parish in East Bay. Besides his parents, Angus was predeceased by his first wife, Betty and his second wife, Rene MacLean; three sons, John Murdock, Peter, Mike ‘Sharkey’ and son-in-law, Steve. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Margaret ‘Peggy’, Mary, Kathleen and his brother, Neil.
He leaves behind his children, daughters, Marg MacInnis, Elizabeth (Bill) MacDonald, Judy (Bernie) MacPhee; sons, David (Sandy), Jody (Angie); step children, Shauna (David) MacLean and Rob (Heather) MacLean; daughters-in-law, Susan and Cheryl; his sister, Tina (Raymond) Pottie; brother, Mickey Campbell and brother-in-law, Marnie (Sandra) Fleming. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Johnathan, Phillip, Leebeth, Matthew, Norma, John, Melissa, Terri-Lynn, Nathan and James and great-grandchildren, Peter, Neila, Kayden, Aleena and Brady. We would like to extend a special thank you to friend and doctor, Murdock Smith, the VON and An Cala Palliative Care for the exceptional care that Dad received. Visitation for the late Angus J. Campbell will take place from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, October 29 and 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, October 30 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel in Sydney, N.S. Funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 31 at St. Mary's Church, East Bay with friend, Rev. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
