Passed on: October 27th, 2016

Greene, Gregory Alan – 60, of New Glasgow, passed away on Thursday, October 27. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Herman and Coral (Dewar) Greene. Those that knew and loved Greg understood that sometimes he was a man of contrasts and throughout the years had various interests. In his younger years, he was involved with scouting, hockey and golf. He also had a lifelong interest in music and at one time he had a massive collection of records that mostly consisted of seventies and eighties rock and as he grew older, his tastes turned to country.
Greg graduated from Pictou Regional Vocational School as a draftsman, which took him to Calgary where he lived for ten years. His work there involved the Trans Canada Pipeline. He always looked back fondly on his time there and had many interesting stories from those years. While there he became an avid downhill skier and spent time sailing around the West Coast.
After the death of his mother Coral in 1984, he returned home to spend time with family and ended up staying permanently. Greg began working with his father Herman as a carpenter and together they were a well-respected team in Pictou County and beyond. Often the highlight of his year was an annual canoe trip down the Saint Mary’s on the May long weekend which he did for many years in all kinds of weather.
Greg was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his son Richard (April) P.E.I., sisters Debbie (Orrin Works) New Glasgow, Shelley (Troy Musseau) Dartmouth, and brother Bradley (Xian) Shenzhen, China, niece Jenaya, nephews Jeremy and Jared, great niece Jade (his Sweetems) and great nephews, aunts Betty Russell and Beth MacLeod, as well as extended family, many great friends and his beloved cat, Princess.
Greg was always willing to help anyone out with his time and will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humour, soft heart and kind nature. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 1 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. with memorial service on Wednesday, November 2 at 11 a.m. at H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Donations in Greg’s memory can be made to Pictou County SPCA.
