Passed on: September 29th, 2016

Benjamin Norman Beach passed away Sept.29th, 2016 in Maple Creek Hospital at the age of 96. Besides his loving wife Phyllis, Norman is survived by 3 daughters - Starla, Gaylene (Garry), Marina, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters - Joy and Pauline, one brother Orland and many nieces and nephews. Norman was born in Ernfold, Saskatchewan on April 14th 1920 and was one of 12 children. He was the 3rd eldest son of Palmer and Floria Beach. Norman met his bride Phyllis in 1943 when she came to Ernfold to teach. They married in 1945 and then moved to Saskatoon for a couple of years where Norman was employed in the poultry industry, then moved back to Ernfold where they settled on the farm. Norman farmed in partnership with 3 of his brothers for many years before retiring and moving into Swift Current in 1982. Norman worked for Saskatchewan Crop Insurance for 15 years, and loved his job as this allowed him to do two things he enjoyed -- meeting people and driving. Norman devoted countless hours performing volunteer work while living on the farm and in Swift Current. Some of his achievements include: Chairman of the Ernfold School Board, Chairman of Ernfold Telephone Company for 29 years, treasurer of Cypress Hills Presbytery for 25 years, President of Prairie Pioneers Kiwanis Club, Chair of First United Church Council, member of the Barbershop Chorus, volunteer for Southwest Safe Shelter, transporting goods to the church and to Moose Jaw and Regina for First Nations, delivered meals of wheels, and was a volunteer for the crises line. In 2002, Norman was presented with the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal in Regina. " He was an ordinary man with an extraordinary capacity to make the world a better place for everyone around him." If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Ernfold Hall by forwarding cheques to Village of Ernfold, Box 340, Morse Sask. S0H 3C0. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
