STONE, Verna Thelma – 93, Hilden, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Onslow, she was a daughter of the late Merle and Myrtle (Whidden) Smith. Verna was a member of First United Church and in earlier years she worked at Stanfield’s. Verna is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Hinton, Fairley “Midgie” Lynds, Truro; brother, Russell (Maureen) Walsh, Halifax; grandchildren, Julie (Randy) Kelly, David Stone, Hilden; Scott (Hiroko) Price, Toronto; Kim (Francis) Hoefs, Waterdown, Ontario; daughter-in-law, Gina Stone, Hilden; son-in-law, Carman Price, Ajax, Ontario; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Russell Eldridge Stone; children, Carol in infancy, Nancy Price, Russell Stone; sisters, Dorothy Rector, Theresa Burley; brother, Wylie Smith, Gerald Walsh. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Verna’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2016, and funeral service 2 p.m., Saturday, November 5, 2016, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating.
