STEPHEN BLAIR MACLELLAN

Born In: NEW WATERFORD

Passed in: NEW WATERFORD
Passed on: October 29th, 2016

It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Stephen Blair MacLellan, age 62, on Oct. 29, 2016, at his home in New Waterford with his beloved dog, Pippie and his devoted wife Lylie (AKA Precious) by his side. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late William and Jessie (Morrison) MacLellan. Stevie worked as a coal miner by trade for Devco until his retirement in 1995. He loved his sports especially golf, hockey, baseball and spent many special moments cheering on his favorite teams with his best friend and son Stephen. As well, the four friends, Stevie, Lylie, Dennis and Debbie (Darroch), walked their family pets daily, each one thinking that they were supporting Stevie but now realizing that these beautiful memories would be Stevie supporting them. They and the other army of supporters are left with memories of friendship, laughter, faith and strength. Also, the inspiration he found in the love that he shared with his wife Lylie for their twin granddaughters, Emma Rose and Ella Raye was cherished because in those moments the pain of his illness seemed to vanish and was replaced by so much joy. Little did his daughter Rachael know that her gift seven years ago would be such a source of strength and joy for Stevie and his family during this difficult time. Also left to mourn are sisters, Sheila (Neil) MacMillan, Ontario, Shirley (Billy) Doyle, New Waterford; brothers, Wayne (Kathy), Ontario and Hector (Catherine), Yellowknife. Besides his parents, Stevie was predeceased by his sister, Mary (Tootsie) and brothers, Bill, Allan, Reginald and Bernie; a brother in infancy and by his father-in-law, Hugh MacKinnon. Also, Stevie was a loved and valued member of the MacKinnon family. Mom (Hilda) and all of Lylie's brothers, Neil (Ernestine), Hugh, Doug (Lisa) and sisters, Dudy (Mickey), Tina (AKA nurse Cratchet) (Bruce), Millie, Donna (Doug), Hilda and brother-in-law, George Lever, thought of Stevie as their own. As well, he leaves to mourn many loving nieces and nephews and many great friends. Stevie was taken far too young and will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer unit for the encouragement, humor and friendship that they shared with Stevie. There will be no visitation. A chapel service to celebrate Stevie's life will take place on Friday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. in McLellan Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500 with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Ave., New Waterford, all are welcome to attend. Donations can be made to the Cancer Unit at the C. B. Regional Hospital. To send online condolences to the family go to: mclellanfuneralhome.com.
