New Glasgow - Barbara “Barbie” Jane Bouchie, age 63, of 16 Emmanuel Street, New Glasgow, passed away at the Aberdeen Hospital on November 1, 2016.0
She was born in New Glasgow on June 14, 1953, the daughter of Frances Grenier and stepdaughter to Rick Grenier.
Barbie worked for many years at Summer Street Industries until declining health. Throughout her employment she made many friends and her work was a source of great pride and fulfillment.
She wasa member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and despite her many health challenges she faced over the last few years, her faith remained unwavering.
In 1993 Barbie came to live with Highland Community Residential Services where she remained until her passing. She was blessed with many friends, an infectious smile and lived life to the fullest, enjoying many community activities. She was a Special Olympian bowler, sang with the Summer Street choir, loved her country music, and like any true Maritimer, a good feed of “fish and chips”. But it was her home that bought her the most happiness, rocking in her chair with a cup of coffee watching General Hospital or Heartland and making her beautiful bracelets to share with friends and family.
Barbie will be greatly missed by her Highland family especially her devoted support staff and her roommates, Brittany, Barbie and Doreen who loved her deeply.
Barbie’s support staff would like to express their appreciation to the Intensive Care and ATC units of the Aberdeen Hospital for the care and kindness provided to Barbie during her illness.
Barbie was predeceased by her mother Frances, stepfather Rick, dear friends Theresa, Doug and Harold.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 6 from 7-9 pm at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow from where funeral will be held Monday, November 7 at 11am from the Chapel, Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial will take place in the Parish Cemetery of St John’s Church. A Celebration of Barbie’s life will follow at Summer Street Industries.
