We, the family of Diane Frances (Piercy) Barrington, regret to announce her passing on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 1, 1952, in Sydney, she was the daughter of Edith (Musgrave) Piercy and the late George Piercy. In her earlier years, Diane was employed at Smith’s Bakery in Ashby. In recent years, she was employed with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board as head cleaner at Malcolm Munroe Memorial Middle School, where her hard work didn’t go unnoticed, as you could eat off the floors. She loved to dance, enjoyed playing cards and was an excellent baker. Diane was a very loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother and will forever be in the hearts of her loved ones. She will also be remembered for her vibrant personality and contagious laugh. Diane is survived by her husband, Collie Sparling; her sons, Keith (Jane Anne), New Waterford, Shayne (Katrina), Cambridge, Ont. and John (Rebecca), Sydney; brothers, George Jr. (Linda), Sydney and Troy (Suzanne), Glace Bay; four grandchildren, Kennedy Paige, Case and twins, Kayleigh and Brett; nephews, Josh and Gregory; niece, Rayne and Collie’s children, Gary, Colleen (David) and Heather (Willie).
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Sunday 1 p.m., with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment at a later date.
