Joan Mary DENNY

Joan Mary Denny passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care facility, at the age of 91. Born in London, England, she was the eldest daughter of the late Fred and Mabel Rudd. Predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Sid Denny, this young Canadian soldier fell in love with a beautiful British lady and together created the wonderful gift of a loving family. Joan is survived by their seven children, Nick (Deborah), Coxheath, Glenn (Judy), Howie Centre, Gerry MacLeod (Alton), Marion Bridge, Brent (Edna), Sydney River, Kathy Forsey (Gary), Sydney River, Anita Matheson (John), Edmonton and John Gary Denny, Sydney. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Audrey Greer, as well as her Australian relatives; her sister, Reene Hancock; niece, Kim and nephew, Mark. Joan and Sid instilled in their children and grandchildren a strong sense of “family”. Because of this, there is a close bond that always keeps our family connected despite the distances between us. Joan will most be remembered for her great sense of humor, gentle manner and dedication to family. These qualities will be carried on at family gatherings in her honor. Joan enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and many crafts much to the benefit and enjoyment of her family. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Steelworkers Lane at Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their loving care and friendship over the years she was there.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 7 at 2 p.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Horizon Achievement Centre, Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or a charity of your choice. Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or email to sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
