Passed peacefully away in the comfort of his own home on Saturday, November 5, 2016, long time taxi driver, Gordon Penney of Mount Carmel, St. Mary's Bay in his 80th year. A man who gave thirty two years of his life to the taxi industry, Gordon was highly depended upon to get many residents of the St. Mary's Bay area to & from Doctor's visits, hospital, shopping in the city & general transportation when vehicles were much less common than they are today. Predeceased by his wife Rita (nee Nolan) 2014 with whom he was the co-owner & business partner of Penney's Superette, & son-in-law Jack Carew. He will be sadly missed by his children: Kevin, Ann Marie (Don Pike), Wally (Elizabeth), Catherine Ezekiel (Dick), Gordon (Karen), Gerard, Dougie (Theresa), Vincent (Sandra), 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, sisters in-law: Margaret Phelan, Annie Power, Isabel Del Bianco & Irene Reiter, many other relatives & friends especially his card buddies whom he would gladly beat with his many trumps. Resting at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on Monday, November 7, 2014, from 7:30 pm - 9 pm & on Tuesday, November 8, 2014 from 12 noon - 4 pm & 7 - 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church. Cremation to follow.
