HIRTLE, Mary Irene – age 97, Viewmount, Kings Co., passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born on March 27, 1919, in Lower Sackville, she was a daughter of the late George and Irene (Stensrud) Carter. Mary was a faithful member of Aylesford United Church and the Fundy Golden Oldies. She was a life time member of Burlington and District Women’s Institute. Mary worked at M.W. Graves Ltd., Berwick, Spicer’s Nursing Home and later as an O.R. Aide at the Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick. She was devoted to her family, friends and community. Mary was a perfect homemaker, who loved to cook and her family was the most important thing in her life. Surviving are her children, Evelyn (Carl) Palmer, Nicholsville; Francis (Sandra) Hirtle, Burlington; Rev. Donald (Jean) Hirtle, Berwick; Brian (Glenda) Hirtle, Viewmount; Marianne (Bruce) Brydon, Black Rock; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Hirtle, Pinehurst; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Tucker, Kentville; sisters-in-law, Florence Carter, Somerset; Sonya Carter, Fredericton, N.B.; Audrey Carter, Victoria, B.C.; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Everette L. Hirtle; sons, Everette Jr. and Robert Hirtle; granddaughter, Faylene Palmer; great-grandson, Damon Woods; brothers, George, Gordon and Francis Carter, as well as two brothers in infancy. There was no public visitation. Funeral service took place at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, in Aylesford United Church, 2414 Hwy No. 1, Aylesford. Rev. John Moses and Rev. Donald Hirtle officiated, and a reception followed. Interment was in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in Marys’ memory may be made to Aylesford United Church, Burlington Community Club or to any charity of your choice.
