Special thanks to Father Ken Walsh and Rev Derrick Bishop for their visits which gave her comfort. Mom started her career as a teacher in Admirals Cove, Southern Shore and that empowered her to move to St. John's to train as a nurse. She graduated in 1953 from the General School of Nursing. Throughout her Nursing career she touched and influenced countless lives with her genuine love, caring and empathy to all. Mom never judged people, she empowered them. She was a trusted advisor to those who reached out for her in troubled times and she gave her love and support willingly. Life was great to our Mom. She enjoyed retirement from the Waterford Hospital, maintained life long friendships and connected so well with everyone. Thank God for new technology as she became a Facebook friend with half the population of Newfoundland and beyond. Facecloth she called it. She used to say "It's better than the party line on the old black phone from decades ago." Her zest for life and her sense of humor, had a profound effect on all whom she touched. Travel was a passion of hers. Cruises and Florida were her favorites. Mom and Dad spent many happy years wintering in Florida. After Dad's passing she still maintained a very active life. It was important to "look good", so nails, pedicures, massages, hair and fashion were part of her daily routine which kept the girls pretty busy. Knitting, accordion and organ playing were paramount, as a matter of fact it ranked up there with the "Young and Restless". Going home to Mom was wherever her family were. Her cabin in Cape Broyle and her garden were the best therapeutic treatments for her. She especially loved the red and white roses. She also made sure pieces of bread were put on the railing so she could see her favorite bird, the Bluejay. They always came. Our Mom's name "Fidelis", means "Faithful". She was faithful to God, her family, and to all who have had the privilege to know her. We know in our hearts that God has placed her as a bright star in His Heaven, to guide us every day until we meet again. Thank you to all who visited Mom to share stories and love during her last weeks. The stories, laughter, songs and memories that were shared with her (and corrected by her!) in recent days uplifted her and gave her the peace she longed for. "Love you to our hearts Mom." Please join with us in celebration of her life. Visitation at Ryan's Funeral Home Bay Bulls, Saturday, November 12th, 2016 2-9 pm and Sunday, November 13th, 2016 2-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, November 14th at 10 am, Immaculate Conception Church Cape Broyle. Inurnment immediately following at Our Lady of the Cape Cemetery Cape Broyle.
