NEW GLASGOW - Gerald Crofton Whitman, 74 of New Glasgow passed away peacefully November 14, 2016, in the Halifax Infirmary surrounded by his family. Born in Middleton, N.S., he was a son of the late Gerald and Emma (Trefry) Whitman. Gerald retired from the Bank of Nova Scotia after 41 years of service. He was involved in the Cub Scouts of Canada as a leader of the 13th New Glasgow pack. Gerald was a member of First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow. He was also a past member of the Lions Club. Gerald is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol (Wells) Whitman; sons, Gerald (Rachel), Sunny Brae; Geoffrey (Connie Daye), Toronto, Ont; granddaughters, Carrie Lynn; Erica Davis (Trevor); sister, Sheila (Bernie) Murphy, Beaverbank; two nephews and two nieces and his dog Tasha, his companion to Tim Hortons. He was predeceased by an infant son. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in P&K MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Baptist Church. A private family burial will take place in Abercrombie Cemetery.
