Della Mary Greeno

The death of Della Mary Greeno, age 97, of Lorneville occurred Monday, November 14, 2016 at Gables Lodge, Amherst.
Born in Apple River, but residing in Spencer’s Island, she was a daughter of the late Wellington and Utah (Milton) Grant.
She was a member of the Lorneville United Church and a life member of the Lorneville U.C.W. Her interests included gardening, knitting mittens following a Newfoundland pattern, weaving and playing 45’s. Before it was fashionable to have a “bed and breakfast”, she kept the overflow tourists from Weeks’ Lodge, often serving both breakfast and dinner to late arrivals. Della will be remembered as being generous, kind and giving to her family and her community.
She was employed at Canada Car in Amherst and the Stanfield’s Factory in Truro.
Della is survived by her daughter Mary, of Lorneville, and her older brother G. William Grant, of Advocate plus numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Ross, brother Cecil and sister Marion Fillmore.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 1:30 pm in the Lorneville Cemetery with Mrs. K. Ruth Gamble DLM officiating. Guests are invited to a time of fellowship and refreshments in the Lorneville Church basement (Della Greeno Friendship Room) following the service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst (902-667-9906).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lorneville United Church, the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or the charity of your choice.
Gratitude is expressed to the staff of Gables Lodge who cared for her during the past eighteen months, the Homecare workers and friends and family who assisted with her care.
Online condolences and sharing of memories may be made to the family via: www.campbellsamherst.ca or by visiting Campbell’s Facebook page.
Neatly pinned to a ball of yellow yarn at her work station was a piece of paper she had cut from a newspaper which said, “Don’t cry for me. Remember me.”
