Iva Maie (Corbett) Scott

Scott, Iva Maie (Corbett) – 84, Bass River/Truro, passed away November 16, 2016 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Bass River, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel (Meadows) Corbett. She worked at the telephone company for several years as a switchboard operator. During this time she met and married Freeman Scott in 1952. After spending 13 years in Calgary, Alta., they returned to Bass River where she worked as a bookkeeper for their company, Scott’s Plumbing and Heating. She also served as an elder at Riverside United Church, Bass River. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are sister-in-law, Jean Corbett, Bass River; brother-in-law, Rod Scott; nephews, Keith (Dianne) MacKenzie, Truro, Stan (Juanita) Corbett, Bass River; niece, Helen (Corbett) Tremayne, Bedford as well as special nephew, David Crowe, Brentwood plus a number of other nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Freeman; brothers, Keith and Harold; sister, Hilda MacKenzie; sisters-in-law, Mary and Eva Corbett, Hazel O’Brien, Marguerite (Johnson) Crowe, Muriel Scott; brothers-in-law, Carl MacKenzie, Trueman Scott. No visitation by request. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 22 at 2pm in Riverside United Church, Bass River, Rev. Florence Antle-Brison officiating. Reception to follow downstairs in MacFarlane Hall. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Bass River. Donations in Iva’s memory may be made to Riverside United Church or a charity of your choice.
