MacKenzie, Betty Iris, 84, Truro, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2016 with her family by her side at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Betty was the youngest of nine children born to the late Wilkens and Violet (Morrison) MacKenzie. She was predeceased by her siblings, Anna, Hazel, Ella, Marie, Ralph, Carl, Jack and Charlie. She is survived by sister-in-law, Velma MacKenzie; brother-in-law, Shirley Jamieson; many nieces and nephews. Betty worked at Dr. MacGregor’s dental office and later at Moffatts Moving & Storage from where she retired. She enjoyed harness racing, playing 45s and cribbage. At the young age of 30 Betty was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and with her determination never gave in to her disease. The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Dr. Rafiq for her wonderful care and compassion to Betty over the years as well as to the doctors and nurses at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their excellent care over the last 7 weeks. They would also like to acknowledge the VON for without their support system Betty could not have stayed in her home for her last years. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd at 11 a.m. in the Greenfield Cemetery, Rev. Mary White officiating. Donations may be made to the local VON or to the MS Society of Canada.
