New Glasgow - D. Francis Dobson.
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Donald Francis Dobson, age 79, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, on Sunday, November 20, 2016, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, Francis was the only child of the late Elmer and Rosalind (Jeans) Dobson.
He was a graduate of New Glasgow High School and a life-long resident of New Glasgow. He was an adherent of Trinity United Church. He was employed as a parts clerk at Ross and Williams and local automobile dealerships for 50 years, first at Atlantic Motors, Westway Pontiac and finally Northumberland Motors from where he retired.
He enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the first snowmobile club in Pictou County. Francis was a life-long car enthusiast and had an extensive collection of car brochures, magazines and books. He was also keenly interested in house plans and music of a wide variety, from the Beatles to classical.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sharon (Cameron); son, Brian (Laura), New Glasgow; grandsons, Matthew and Nicholas; daughter, Leanne, New Glasgow; granddaughter, Nicole; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Ron) Nolan; and several cousins.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held at 11 am Thursday with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Burial will be in Lorne Street Cemetery. Donations in memory of Francis may be made to a charity of choice.
