Barkhouse, Lois May – age 69, Onslow
It is with sadness that the family of Lois May Barkhouse announces her passing on November 21, 2016, peacefully at home in Onslow. Lois was born at the Windsor Hospital, Hants Co. and lived her first few years in Hantsport before moving to Falmouth where she spent her childhood years and lived the last 45 years in Truro. Lois was the oldest child of the late Bernard and Jean (Forrest) Johnston. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sister Julia Morash; nephew, Jamie McHughen; brother-in-law, Carmen Zink. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert; sister, Bernardine (Bernie) McHughen; brother-in-law, Earl Morash special sister-in-law, Joyce Hope; children, Jeffery (Tammy) Barkhouse, Catherine (Paul Denton), Deborah (Trent Bates), Douglas (Patti) Barkhouse; 13 grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Lois started her working life with Maritime Tel and Tel in Kentville and transferred to Halifax when she got married. After she moved to Truro she worked as an office worker at Phil Miller Electric Ltd. and later for R W Barkhouse Electric. Lois was a wonderful , loving wife, mother and friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed by all. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, November 24 with a funeral service on Friday, November 25 at 2 pm followed by a reception, all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Garnet Parker officiating. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice. We wish to thank everyone who helped us through this troubled time with a special thanks to the Palliative Care Team and the Home Care Ladies who made Lois’s last days easier.
