Born: January 10th, 1949

Passed on: November 24th, 2016

With broken hearts and beautiful memories we announce the passing of a wonderful son, father and brother, Roddie MacNeil or as we fondly remember him “Sir Roderick of Cape”. Roddie lost his battle with cancer early on Thursday morning November 24, 2016, with his family at his side. He handled his diagnosis with grace and dignity and showed his undying love for his family and friends. Born on January 10, 1949 in Sydney, Roddie was the son of the late Donald Joseph ‘Dan Joe’ and Norah (Kennedy) MacNeil. Roddie was a gentle soul who passionately enjoyed music and nature and did so until the end. His ability to charm young and old was a delight to witness. Also Roddie was “never wrong” and had his trusty computer to prove it.
Left to mourn are the ‘Love and Light’ of his heart, his daughter, Jodi Latimer and her husband, Chris of Black Falls, Alberta. Also left to mourn are his brothers, Blaise MacNeil, Frank MacNeil (Kelly) and Jerri MacNeil (Sally); sisters, Margie Brewer (Barrie), Nora Troke (Charlie) and Florence Faulder (Edwin); as well as many nieces and nephews who loved their uncle Roddie dearly. Besides his parents, Roddie was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Murphy (Billy).
Treasured friends also mourning Roddie are, Ron Apblett, Greg Condon, Carl Wrobleski, Harry Fougere and Brian Young who helped make a dream come true for Roddie. Roddie also leaves behind Carolyn Murphy, for her love and support of Roddie and family; Carol Halitski, the mother of his daughter and Marilyn Campbell, Olive Mah and Beatrice MacDonald for their unending support of our family.
As per Roddie’s, wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Special thanks to his “Angels” in An Cala for their compassionate care, as well as his palliative care doctors, D’Intino, Burns and Aboud for their kindness to Roddie in his time of need. God bless you all, rest in peace Roddie you were so loved and we shall meet again. Donations in memory of Roddie may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.pierfuneralhome.com.
A line from Roddies favorite song “I’m going back to my own ones”.
