Thomas (Tom) Efford

Aged 86, passed away in his home on November 25, 2016, with his son Robert by his side. Predeceased by his loving wife Catherine (Kay) 2004 and lovingly remembered by daughter Ellen Power, sons Robert and Jim and five beloved grandchildren Colin, Taylor, Lauren, Catherine and Chloe. Also mourned by his daughter-in-law Kelly Efford, son-in-law Keith Power, sister Ellen Fraser and family, niece Allison Dancey and long time neighbours John and Nora Hamilton. Born and raised on Southside Road in St. John's, Tom was an avid sportsman who enjoyed all sports, early in life playing baseball, hockey and soccer for the Guards, then golf and curling as a long time member of Bally Haly and the St. John's Curling Club. Following service in the Merchant Marine, Tom spent a long career in the Civil Service retiring in 1987. Tom also held memberships at the RCAF and Elks Clubs and was always known as an excellent card player, who in retirement became a noted bridge player with many friends at his bridge club. He was a man of many talents, from cooking and gardening to hunting and fishing he did it all. He will be dearly missed by all. Visitation to be held from Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service to be held from George Street United Church on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
