Clarence MacInnis

Passed on: November 26th, 2016

The family of Clarence Alexander MacInnis, 60, of Howie Center, are shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of their beloved husband, father and grandfather on Saturday, November 26, 2016. Born in Kennington Cove, he was the son of Olive (Levi) and the late Murdock MacInnis. First and foremost, Clarence loved his wife, Shirley, his children and grandchildren. He became a Toronto Raptors fan because of the special bond he shared with his granddaughter, Winter. His grandson, Kiden introduced him to Mario and Luigi, who poppy referred to as ‘the plumbers’. He was also looking forward to the arrival of his granddaughter, Callie in April. Anyone who knew Clarence knows how much he loved the game of hockey and he died doing just that. He will be sadly missed by all of his hockey buddies. He was an avid Leafs fan and his children will carry on the tradition. His sense of humour and unique sayings left a smile on everyone’s face. Clarence was well known all over the Island for his trade (plumbing). He worked at Lynk Electric for 42 years and belonged to the Plumbers Local 682. He was involved with the Cape Breton Dragon Boat Races and the Because You Care Cup.
Besides his mother, Clarence is survived by his wife, Shirley Anne (Cross); daughter, Kimberley (Dennis Standing) MacInnis, Middle Sackville; son, Cory (Katie Carrol) MacInnis, Coxheath; grandchildren, Winter Mae MacInnis, Kiden John Alexander Standing and his granddaughter on the way, Callie Jane MacInnis; sisters, Laura (Alfred) Pine, Florence (Bernie) MacNeil, both of Sydney; brothers, Murray (Sandy) Bagnell, PEI, Dan (Velma) MacInnis, Sydney, Walter (Laura) MacInnis, Barrie, Ont., Murdock MacInnis, Arichat; father-in-law, Kenneth Cross, Marion Bridge; sisters-in-law, Debbie Horton, Sydney, Denise (Aaron) Dean, Georges River, Kim (Donnie) Wadman, Sydney; brother-in-law, Blair (Heather) Cross, Louisbourg; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Cross. As a member of the North Sydney congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he leaves behind his extended family of brothers and sisters, whom he loved and who loved him in return. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, December 1 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Kingdom Hall, Alexandra St., Sydney on Saturday, December 3 at 2 p.m., with Mr. Brad Birch officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Cancer Center at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
We dearly appreciate the kindness and compassion shown to us by the emergency room staff at the CBRH. To Dr. Andrew Holmes, the EHS drivers and his hockey buddies, we cannot thank you enough for going above and beyond for Clarence and to Dr. Glenn Gracie for his many years of caring for Clarence. Words cannot express how grateful we are for you all. As Clarence would say, ‘keep your head up, keep your stick on the ice and Go Leafs Go!' Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
