Robert passed away peacefully in the morning of November 28, 2016, at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John and Grace Read.
He was actively involved with the former Glace Bay Alpines baseball team, was an avid dart player and gardener. He was a great hockey fan and loved the Pittsburgh Penguins. He worked for many years with Devco at the machine shop until his retirement.
He will be sadly missed by his partner, Joan Burton and loving children, Beverly (Richard), Johnnie (Tanya), Billy (Sherry), Robert (Jeanette); grandchildren, Nicolas, Taylor, Evan, Matt, Benny, Aaron, Brydon and Garrett. Besides his parents, Robert was also predeceased by his sister, Linda Strojsa.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A graveside service will take place 1 p.m. on Friday, December 2, at St Mary’s Anglican Cemetery. The family will gather at Vespers By the Sea (17 Eleventh St., New Aberdeen) following the service.
