Christene Marguerite MacLeod Christene Marguerite MacLeod

Passed on: December 3rd, 2016

With broken hearts and beautiful memories, we announce the passing of Christene Marguerite MacLeod at the age of 87. Resident of Juniper Mountain, Christene passed away Saturday December 3, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Forchu, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Archie and Mary Ann (MacLeod) MacDonald.
A former teacher, homemaker and Avon representative, Christene was a member of Forchu United Church, as well as the Eastern Star in Forchu. A wonderful mother, wife and grandmother, Christene was especially proud of her two granddaughters. She always followed their activities and accomplishments, and could often be caught boasting about them to anyone who would listen. Although Christene was a very quiet woman, she was very proud of her heritage and kept in touch with her community and friends via telephone and letters. She loved visits, and there was always tea on the stove. It was hard to get away from her home with an empty stomach. She was also very fond of a good game of cards, whether it was Auction, Old Maid or Crazy Eights. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William ‘Billie’ MacLeod; her son, Richard (Debbie) MacLeod, Juniper Mountain; brother, A.D. (Joan) MacDonald, Ottawa; granddaughters, Breanna (Brett) Smith, Halifax and Maggie MacLeod, Juniper Mountain, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Christene was predeceased by her sister, Euphemia ‘Fema’ MacDonald-Strachan and her brother, Malcolm MacDonald.
Visitation will be held Monday December 5th, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Forchu United Church with Nancy Whitney-Latham DLM officiating. Interment at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Framboise.
Memorials may be made to Palliative Care An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
