Kathleen Edith "Kay" (Davis) Dewar

Dewar, Kathleen Edith (Davis) “Kay”, age 94, of Halifax, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax. Kay was born in Elmsdale, NS, on July 15, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Bert and Mary (Murphy) Davis. Kay was raised in Truro from the age of five weeks where she began her lifelong love affair with horses. A well-known equestrian in both the fields of riding and judging, Kay was a fixture at horse shows across the country. Kay continued to have horses well into her late years. She had a deep love for all animals and always had an array of German Shepherds, little sidekicks, and cats in her house and barns. Kay spent her life as a dedicated employee of Maritime Tel and Tel and retired from their employ at the age of 65. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Truro, until she relocated to Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home in Halifax in December of 2014. Kay was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, and their families;
She was predeceased by her husband Walter Emery Dewar; sister Marie; brother Ellis Davis; brother-in-law Stanley Edwards; sister-in-law Kathryn (Babe) Davis.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. No visitation or funeral service by family request. A family graveside service will take place at a later date in Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. Donations in Kay’s memory may be made to Wayward Cats, Truro or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home for Kay’s excellent care. She felt at home there and enjoyed their companionship.
