SURETTE-MUISE, Joanne Marie – age 65, Gavelton, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital with her husband, family and friends at her side. Born September 19, 1951 in Summerside, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Casimir and Jeanette (Surette) Surette. A loving and well-respected elementary school teacher, Joanne taught at schools in Argyle, Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau and Belleville. Aside from her love of teaching, Joanne was passionate about music, the arts and her Acadian heritage. She was a talented pianist/organist and singer, having also served as the director of the Nova Chords. Joanne also took part in many plays throughout the years, most recently in the local production of Évangeline: L’esprit d’une communauté, as well as in several productions with Les araignées du boui-boui. A woman of strong faith, she was an active and devoted member of St. Anne’s Parish, where she served as pianist, organist, soloist, choir director and head of the catechism program. She is survived by her loving husband, Louis Muise, as well as by her step-son, Morgan Muise, Montreal, and her beloved granddaughter, Naomi Hurlburt, Quinan, who has always held a very special place in her heart, along with many cousins and friends who were always very dear to her. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday with prayers at 8 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 10 at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Albeni d’Entremont officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Anne’s Church Building Fund or to the Tri-County site of the VON (for the purchase of an oxygen meter).
