Wood Lorraine Theresa

Born In: St. Paul, Alberta, Canada
Born: February 28th, 1931

Passed in: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Passed on: November 11th, 2016

Lorraine passed away quietly on Remembrance Day, November 11, 2016 with her husband of sixty-four years, Russell Norman Wood, at her side.
Lorraine was of French Canadian descent and grew up in Northern B.C., where her family owned a restaurant and gas station along the Alaska Highway. She went to high school in Dawson Creek, where she met a tall, dark, handsome man named Russell. They started their married life in High River, AB.
Lorraine and Russell moved frequently due to Russell’s job as a banker. They lived in High River, Ponoka, and Calgary, then on to Vancouver, Toronto and finally back to Calgary.
Along the way, they had three beautiful children together: Barrie (of Phoenix, Arizona), and Cherie and Darryl, both of Calgary. Lorraine and Russ also have numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were all very fond of their “Gran”.
Each year in the fall, Lorraine and Russ traveled to Sayulita, Mexico for six months, where they owned a house. Being vivacious and outgoing, Lorraine enjoyed a wide circle of friends, now scattered across Canada, the United States and Mexico.
Lorraine loved to entertain and have dinner parties for her friends, where she would serve up good conversation and culinary delights. She loved hats and classical music, and was very much an artist in her own right. Lorraine was very well read and kept that love of books her entire life.
In later years, Lorraine’s health began to fail, however, she remained in good cheer and was always up for a game of cribbage or a chance to visit with family and friends.
Besides her loving husband Russ, Lorraine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cherie Wood and Terry Gilbank; sons and daughters-in-law Barrie and Lynn Wood and Darryl Wood and Sherri Jackson; sister-in-law Yvonne Dubeau of Penticton, BC. She also has numerous nieces and nephews in Alberta and BC. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Aimee Dubeau of Taylor, BC; brother Ray Dubeau of Fort St. John, BC; and sister Evelyn Hill of Fort St. John, BC. Lorraine will be remembered for her beauty, kind heart and sense of humour. She always tried to see the best in everyone and will be missed. Rest in Peace.
