It is with great sadness and heavy heart that we announce the passing of Barbara at the young age of 52 years on December 6, 2016 at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Originally from Shoal Harbour, NL, Barbara is predeceased by her father Clarence Dalton of Shoal Harbour, father and mother-in-law Thomas and Stella Laidley of St. John's, brother-in-law Ronald, St. John's and sister-in-law Patricia Laidley-Hass, Mississauga, ON. Left to celebrate her life with loving memories is her devoted husband Brian; step-daughters Janine and Vanessa whom she adored and cared for as her own daughters; mother Marguerite, Clarenville; siblings Stanley (Cindy), Katherine, ON, Linda (Roy) Thistle, Elizabeth (Terry) Fooks, Texas, Mollie (Wayne Moores), Gary (Joy) ON, and Chris (Debbie Mercer); in-laws Thomas (Frances O'Toole), Barbara, Wayne AB, Peggy (John Wolwowicz) ON, Janet, Carol (Nelson) Seymour. As well as beloved nieces, nephews and a large number of relatives and friends. We would like to acknowledge and extend a heartfelt thank you to sisters-in-law Cindy, Janet and Carol, neighbour and friend Ruth LeGrand and friend Lynn Nash, for their help and love in providing care and emotional support through Barb's lengthy and difficult journey with cancer. Barbara retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 2013 after serving 30 years of continuous service. We would like to thank Dr. Kara Laing and the Chemo Centre Staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, Dr. Adrian Lear and the staff of 4 South B at the Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Sheau Chian Ng at My Family Health and Dr. Cheryl Hurley and the fantastic staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre for their loving care and support during Barbara's stay. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A service honouring Barbara's life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to your local SPCA or Humane Society.
