It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and grandpa, Peter Currie, age 78, on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Beaver Cove on October 15, 1938, he was the son of the late Michael and Catherine (MacMullin) Currie. Peter was an Industrial Arts teacher for 32 years and in his spare time, he could be found helping someone, building something, or planning his next fishing trip. His most enjoyable moments were with his fishing partners, Edwin Shepard, John O’Neil, his late buddies Bill Dobbin and brother Rannie. Peter is survived by his wife, Ann Lorraine (Gillis) Currie; his two daughters, Sheila and Roseann; brothers, John Thomas ‘Tom’ (Jo-Anne) Currie, Gerard (Kaye) Currie, Hurbert ‘Herbie’ (Heather) Currie; his sisters, Ann Marie (John ‘Sonny) Leslie, Jeannine (John) MacLean; sisters-in-law, Annette Currie (Michael), Lucy Currie and Barbara Currie (Donald); brother-in-law, James Gardiner (Mary) and eight beautiful grandchildren, Sarah, Emma, Molly, Ryan, Katie, Samuel, Maggie and Peggy. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael, Donald and Rannie and his sister, Mary Gardiner.
Peter was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima parish, the Knights of Columbus, and their singing choir. He was an involved member of his community and could be relied on by all his friends when needed. He was an avid gardener and loved to share all he produced.
During his quick passing, he was helped by such wonderful staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Visitation for Mr. Currie will be on Thursday, December 15 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating.
